About Symantec Mobile Security
Symantec Mobile Security provides secure mobile computing through comprehensive, reliable protection against malicious attacks that are directed at devices. It is specifically designed to work with mobile device management systems, so an administrator can use a wireless connection to send installation and configuration files to users' devices to maintain protection and enforce a company's security policy. The devices can be configured remotely by the administrator to pick up virus definitions and product updates either directly from the Symantec LiveUpdate™ servers (through a wireless Internet connection), or from an internal LiveUpdate server in the administrator's own network.
Virus protection features:
Symantec Mobile Security 4.0 for Symbian protects against unwanted network ntrusions, hackers, viruses, Trojan horses, and worms. Real-time automatic protection and on-demand virus scan protect files that are stored on the device file system. A list of known viruses is stored in the virus definitions file, along with details about each virus. LiveUpdate Wireless keeps your protection updated wherever you go; you do not have to synchronize with your PC to get new protection and program updates.
Symantec Mobile Security 4.0 for Symbian virus protection features include the following:
• Virus protection defends the device from Symbian OS viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and other malicious content.
• On-demand scan manually inspects applications and archived files whenever it is necessary.
• In addition to providing immediate alerts whenever a virus is discovered, Auto-Protect can remove these viruses automatically.
• LiveUpdate Wireless keeps virus definitions, products, and software up-to-date with information about new threats. This feature does not require synchronization with a standard PC.
Firewall protection features
Firewall protection resides on the device and intercepts both inbound and outbound connection attempts and packets. This firewall protection guards the device from Internet attacks, and also guards privacy. Firewall protection features include the following:
• Preconfigured firewall rules in Symantec Mobile Security 4.0 for Symbian provide firewall protection levels for basic protection without any configuration being necessary.
• Intrusion detection scans each piece of information that enters and exits the device and automatically block Internet attacks.
• Symantec Mobile Security 4.0 for Symbian network detection capabilities can be used to customize security settings for different networks. In addition, they will detect port scanning attempts and block attackers.
• Stealth blocking makes the device invisible to a scan of unused ports by potential hackers.
How virus protection and Symantec Mobile Security are updated
Symantec™ Security Response provides administrators and users with regular updates to virus definitions files to keep their virus protection current. In addition, Symantec may also provide software updates to Symantec Mobile Security.
Symantec Mobile Security offers the following methods of obtaining updates:
1. LiveUpdate Wireless directly from the Symantec LiveUpdate server.
2. LiveUpdate Wireless using an internal LiveUpdate server.
